Do
something good for the environment AND Yourself.
Recycle!
Most people know how beneficial recycling is to
the environment, and most Hawaii residents
already know how beneficial it is to their own
pocketbook.
"Hawaii has a long history of
recycling," says Terry G. Telfer, president
of Reynolds Recycling, "For 26 years we
have helped Hawaii residents recycle billions of
containers away from the waste stream. Since the
start of the Deposit Beverage Container Law
(HI-5), more people than ever are recycling.
With over 31 redemption centers statewide we
have over 80 thousand transactions
monthly."
To
make your redemption easier, Reynolds
Recycling offers these tips:
- Separating all of
your material at home will make your trip
to your neighborhood redemption center
faster and easier.
- If you utilize the
smaller plastic category (for containers
under 17 ounces), you must segregate these
from other plastic containers, but this
will help you get the maximum deposit
back.
- Most redemption
centers ask that you separate glass by
color, and make sure that all caps and
lids for glass and plastic containers are
removed.
- Redemption centers do
not generally have the capability to take
back cases or cardboard boxes, so be
prepared to take them home if you use
them.
- Remember that to save
space you can also flatten aluminum and
plastic containers if you are not planning
to use a reverse vending machine to redeem
them.
Whichever method you decide, recycling is a
great thing for the environment and with a
little planning and preparation can be a hassle
free way to help the earth and your wallet.
